South Africa vs Sri Lanka Live Score, Cricket Highlights – ICC Champions Trophy 2009 Live Streaming

Group B: South Africa v Sri Lanka at Centurion

Sep 22, 2009

Match scheduled to begin at 14:30 local time (12:30 GMT)

South Africa (Rank#2) facing opening match of ICC Champions trophy 2009 against Sri Lanka (Rank#4) at Centurion Park. Even though South Africa in good form till now they did not won any big trophy like World Cup and Champions Trophy. Sri Lanka already entered into final of the champions trophy that match was dropped due to rain interruption.

Sri Lanka need to be motivated to play hosts and it’s certainly not easy. Mind you, they are the mini World Cup champs and regarded as no mean team. Hosts will equally feel the pressure of playing them.

South Africa, Australia, and India are tipped as potential winners of 2-million-dollar prize, so this gives advantage to team like Sri Lanka, they come with little expectations so little pressure on them. They could prove they are potential winners to be right from the word go. Their bowlers Muttiah Muralitharan and Nuwan Kulasekara are sharing two spots in the top 10 world bowling rankings. In batting though they are an inconsistent lot.

Proteas will miss Herschelle Gibbs who adds to batting and fielding strength; but Smith, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers and JP Duminy are all experienced and will be their vanguard. The only drawback if I may say is that they have had a long break and coming rusty into a big tournament like this. Nevertheless fans are hoping they are up to the challenge.

One more advantages for South Africa is they are going to play in home ground, they have good support in their home station.

ICC finalises dates for 2009 Champions Trophy

The ICC will hold the postponed Champions Trophy between September 24 and October 5, 2009, it was decided during the second day of its board meeting in Dubai. The announcement ends months of uncertainty about the event which was originally scheduled for September this year in Pakistan but was postponed after several participating countries refused to travel over security fears in the country.

The ICC also said the event will be held in one city, possibly to ensure foolproof security arrangements, though Pakistan’s fate as host will be decided only after a review following India’s tour of the country in early 2009. Lahore and Karachi were the original venues. David Morgan, the ICC president, welcomed the decision to find a place for the tournament despite an increasingly packed Future Tours Program (FTP) and Lorgat thanked the participating countries for their cooperation. “I’m hugely encouraged by the spirit of togetherness and teamwork shown by our members in ensuring we have found a place for the Champions Trophy in next year’s calendar,” Lorgat said.
