Struggling with the absence of their captain stand in deputy Dinesh Karthik has a big onus to escape the Royal Challengers threat. The team has been struggling with 3 losses successively, even though a couple of them have been close ones. Dirk Nannes has been the pick of bowlers for the Daredevils but Amit Mishra has given him good support. Karthik will have to gamble on batting positions and put up big total.

RCB on the other hand, have been ruthlessly chasing whatever be the target and have been on a roll now with Kallis who had been amazingly playing all textbook shots and Uthappa and Manish going that extra mile to entertain the crowds. Irfan Pathan came as opening batsman with Ravi Bopara and the partnership looked to have worked for them as they won the match. Bisla gamble did fail though and they might want to give him break in the upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals. Yuvraj seems to have gained his touch and if it peaks in tomorrow’s match, it can be in their favor.

Past few days have been encouraging for the Rajasthan Royals too who picked up a win against KKR and Yusuf Pathan will be key for their success and should he fire the team will take off with confidence, but it looks like Shane Warne has been missing great bowling combination especially one like Jadeja.

In this match Kolkata Knight Riders seem to be clear underdogs as Mumbai Indians are having the best bolwing and batting options. And there is the much-talked jinx for the KKR. It happened last time and it is happening this time too. The same trend of loosing after the first two victories.

On the field Kolkata Knight Riders have no Tendulkars. Surprisingly they lost kept wickets, still their run rat was lethargic and in the end they tried to accelerate and failed miserably. Big hitting captain Sourav Ganguly and running in good form batsmen like Brad Hodge and Owais Shah will not find easy again when they face the opening pair of Zaheer Khan and Lasith Malinga. It is a twenty over innings and quite a delicate thing to decide how many wickets should one team have in the middle overs.

Keeping the failure of other bowlers of Mumbai Indians KKR may plan to give some respect to Zaheer and Malinga and target the others. But that does not meaning they can afford to let the duo dominate.

Kolkata Knight Riders have this opportunity to use Chris Gayle for maximum. If Gayle stays for three to four overs Sachin Tendulkar may recall the hittings of Jacques Kallis. The KKR are also eagerly waiting for Brendon McCullume who is busy playing for his country against the Australians.

For Mumbai Indians Tendulkar may again be the key player but depending so much on him is a not good sign for them. By the way it would be interesting to see how Saching Mumbai Indians seem to be fortunate enough to have young Saurabh Tiwary’s fireworks but he too have to negotiate some quality bowling.

This match should provide some of the best mind game, as two greats of Indian cricket would try to outmaneuver each other though Sachin seems to have an upper hand with better performing cricketers. Thing to remember; in cricket you win with the performance of the particular day and not just with the big names.

Gautam Gambhir will not play in Friday’s match against Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Eric Simons, the assistant coach of Delhi Daredevils, has said. Gambhir pulled a hamstring during Wednesday’s defeat to Mumbai Indians and was forced off the field within the first 10 minutes of the match. In his place the vice-captain Dinesh Karthik has been elevated to the lead the side.

“The captain plays an important role. He should understand the game and should be able to take quick decisions. So many captains have been fined for slow over-rate in this tournament and we need to be careful.”

Karthik has captaincy experience leading his state side Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy and other domestic competitions but this is his first task leading players of international quality in a lucrative tournament. Delhi won their first two matches before losing heavily to Mumbai at home.
