Shahid Afridi is set to lead Pakistan in their Champions Trophy opener against West Indies on Wednesday after Younus Khan suffered a finger injury in practice.
Younus sustained a hairline fracture of the little finger on his right hand and, although he has not definitely been ruled out, is unlikely to be risked against an under-strength West Indies.
“It happened during a warm-up game. The injury is not serious,” Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam revealed.
“It’s a hairline fracture. He is a strong person and does not want to miss a match. He will start practising so that he could be fit for the remaining games.
“It is most unlikely that he will play. He will start practising from tomorrow (Wednesday) and I am sure he will be ready to play against India in the next match (Sep 26).”
